Nothing but Swing Trio was formed in Banská Bystrica in 1998. Since then, it has performed as it was established, without any change. Trio performs in the frame of traditional jazz musicians of the forties and the fifties such as Lester Young, Bud Powel, Charlie Parker and so on. However, its play list also contains records which belong behind the border of the fifties. The band became quickly part of jazz happening at home and abroad. It performs in jazz club such as Smädný Mních (Banská Bystrica), Art Jazz Gallery (Piešťany), Jazzland – Vienna (AT), Dakig – Gassendorf (AT), Tygmont – Warsaw (PL), Jazz Club U Muniaka – Krakow (PL), Boogie-Woogie – Krakow (PL) and has also taken part on many important concert meetings in Slovakia and in other european countries : ORF Radiokulturhause Vienna (AT), Bratislava Jazz Days Horizon 2001 (SK), Summer Jazz Festival Krakow 2000 (PL), Bohem Festival Kecskemeth (HU), Brno Jazz Fest (CZ), European Jazz Festival Athens 2004 (GR), VII. Cívis Korzó Debrecen 2005 (HU) and so on. In 1999, Nothing but Swing Trio was nominated and also awarded for solo performances on Jazz Christmas Festival in Bratislava. In 2005, it took part on slovak-austrian tour with the world-known saxophone player Scott Hamilton (USA).     

Jerzy Malek

Trumpeter, composer born in Elbląg, Poland 1978. Studied classical in Elbląg Music High School then jazz in Music Akademy Katowice in PIOTR WOJTASIK master class. His international rising begins during the master studies when he joined GARY BARTZ / JAREK ŚMIETANA Quintet, and formed his first band named Jerzy Małek Quintet. His first group included top, young polish jazz musicians TOMASZ GRZEGORSKI, MICHAŁ TOKAJ, ROMUALD TWAROŻEK, SEBASTIAN FRANKIEWICZ. They played on many jazz festivals in Poland and abroad, won many prices, achieved public applause and critics approbation. Jerzy Małek took part in many competitions and won many prizes including: "International Competition of Jazz Improvisation Katowice 99'" , Grand Prix "Jazz Juniors" 99', "Key to the Career" 99', "A New Hope 2000'" according to the reviewers of European jazz magazine "Jazz Forum". He also competed in "The Szczecin International Jazz Struggle" 2004 placed 3rd among many great musicians from Europe and USA including winner KEYON HARROLD (New York) and performed with BILLY HARPER. In following years he became regular member of ZBIGNIEW WEGEHAUPT Quartet (and made two recordings "Wege" 2006, "Tota" 2008) and ZBIGNIEW NAMYSŁOWSKI Sextet and Big-Band. Jerzy played and made recordings with many great musicians: MICHAŁ URBANIAK, JANUSZ MUNIAK, JANUSZ SKOWRON, TOMASZ SZUKALSKI, WOJCIECH KAROLAK, ANDRZEJ JAGODZIŃSKI, JANUSZ STROBEL, CEZARY KONRAD, KRZYSZTOF HERDZIN, HANNA BANASZAK, STANISŁAW SOYKA, WOJCIECH GROBORZ, MARCIN MASECKI, STEVE LOGAN, ZIV RAVITZ and many others. Jerzy recorded several albums; "By five" 1999 NOT TWO, "Gift" 2002 NOT TWO, " Spirit of the Time" 2005 JM MUSIC, "Bop Bit" 2006 JM MUSIC, "Air" 2007 JM MUSIC and " Culmination" 2009 JM MUSIC.
