Nothing But Swing Trio feat. Paul Towndrow (SK, Scotland)

(Robert Ragan - bass, Peter Solárik - drums, Klaudius Kováč - piano)

Nothing but Swing Trio performs in the frame of traditional jazz musicians of the forties and the fifties such as Lester Young, Bud Powel, Charlie Parker and so on. However, its play list also contains records which belong behind the border of the fifties. The band became quickly part of jazz happening at home and abroad. It performs in jazz club and has also taken part on many important concert meetings in Slovakia and in other european countries In 1999, Nothing but Swing Trio was nominated and also awarded for solo performances on Jazz Christmas Festival in Bratislava. In 2005, it took part on slovak-austrian tour with the world-known saxophone player Scott Hamilton (USA).

Paul Towndrow (sax, Scotland)

Saxophonist Paul Towndrow is best know for his projects, Paul Towndrow Quartet, Paul Towndrow Sextet, and ‘Newology’. He is also one quarter of the iconoclastic four-piece Brass Jaw, and a member of Scotland’s flagship jazz orchestra, The SNJO. Towndrow has become one the UK’s busiest musicians. In 2002 he won The Peter Whittingham Jazz Award resulting in his debut album ‘Colours’, and in 2003, reached the final of The World Saxophone Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival, winning the Public Prize (most audience votes) following his performance with the Geri Allen Trio. Paul has released four solo albums and has appeared as a sideman on many others. Much of his output is released on his own label, Keywork Records which was founded in 2005.  In 2008, he launched Jazz Futures, a performance platform and for aspiring young jazz musicians. The scheme was nominated for ‘Best New Project’ at the inaugural Scottish Jazz Awards.
