Jan Jankeje is a double-bass player, violin player and also fujara player. He was born in Slovakia and in 1968, he emigrated to Germany. He studied violin in Slovakia, then double-bass and composition in Graz and Stuttgart. He has recorded 10 CD of his own and other 12 as a co-performer with many musicians and bands. Together with Stephane Grapelli, Benny Carter and Bireli Lagrene, Jankeje was the first one who entered Carnegie Hall N.Y.C. in 1985. He is also a composer of the last Reiner Werner Fassbinder Erster Tango. He has cooperated with Les Paul, Eugene Cicero, Tony Scott, Ronny Scott, Joe Passo, Emely Remmler, Jack Pastorius, Larry Coryell, Stephane Grappellim, Lionel Hampton, Horst Jankowski, Barney Kessel, Babik Reinhardt, Benny Goodman, Vic Juris, Dieter Seelow, Romano Mussolini, Benny Carter, Frederic Rabold, Hug Heredia, Beny Waters, Doc Cheatham, Wild Bill Davison, Oscar Klein, Al Casey, Acker Bilk, Tal Farlow, Buddy de Franco, Scott Hamilton, Eje Thelin, Charly Antolini, the jazz impresario George Wein, Dodo Šošoka, Bireli Lagrene. Nowadays, he lives in Weinsberg (Germany).
